With Kenosha’s Plan Commission signaling thumbs-up Thursday, a proposed new 115-room hotel along 75th Street will head to the full City Council for consideration.
No commissioners voiced objections to a conditional use permit application brought before them by Anthony Garza, the architect for the proposed Woodspring Suites Hotel, which Green Bay Development, of Kenosha, aims to build at 6201 75th St.
The proposed investment for the project would be between $10 million and $12 million.
The plan calls for the hotel to share a driveway entrance with the much smaller 20-room Park Ridge Suites nearby.
Preliminary drawings show it with a ground floor topped by the three upper floors.
After getting the commission’s nod, Garza spoke briefly about the project and its timeline with the Kenosha News outside the meeting.
Garza said the property owner wants to get development underway as soon as possible, contingent on the city granting the necessary conditional use permit.
The Park Ridge Suites complex will remain in place, but a small commercial office at the site will be razed to make way for Windspring Suites and a surface parking lot.
Once the development firm gets final approval, Garza said he anticipates a speedy construction schedule, with the hotel completed in an estimated 15 months leading to a possible opening around late summer 2019.
